Organic Gardening 101 The Natural Choice in Gardening!
So, you maybe asking yourself, "What is organic gardening and why do I want to garden organically?
There are several reasons why; so many reasons that I could totally get off the subject.
I'll try to contain myself and share many of the basic reasons and the great benefits of it.
Organic gardening is basically a garden practice or a garden method that, over time, improves the quality of the garden soil by using biological substance - in other words, using material that once was living or alive.
One of the biggest focus is to create such an ecosystem that garden plants are strong enough to resist pests and diseases without the need of chemicals, such as, pesticides, fertilizer, herbicides, etc.
Geez Louise, no wonder the world is sick. I'm getting sick just thinking about whose kids or pets are playing around in that backyard. Not mine!
Studies show that garden pests are becoming more and more immune to repeat treatment of chemical pesticides. That means continues search and development of more potent, more dangerous pesticides are required for treatment.
Consumers are buying and dumping toxic chemicals by the ton. Yep, right into our backyard. You could be the culprit! Or, you could be the victim of your surrounding neighbors!
Think about this for a minute - "Where does all this toxic chemical stuff go?” Hmmm, it flows right down into our precious rivers and streams; it even makes it way into our groundwater and right into our water supply. Now, that's some tasty drinking water - Not!
Organic gardening is such a tremendous way for all of us to do our share in protecting our environment, wildlife and ourselves. The crazy thing is, it so easy to practice organic gardening and it’s cheap!!! You use what you already have. No need to spend money on toxic chemicals.

Invest in learning how to compost and garden organically, it will save you a lot of money and you do know what that means? It means more money to buy more plants, more decorative garden art, more birdfeeders, more bird baths!
Oh, yeah, that's what I'm talking about! I can see my husband rolling his eyes now and saying, "Yes, dear, you need more stuff in our backyard." He just doesn't understand!!
Below I listed a few great books on Organic Gardening. They're chuck full of ideas, easy to read and make great reference books. Get motivated, get planning, get going! Check them out!
Here is another great benefit of organic gardening that hits the old pocket book - less trash or waste; you won't need to spend money having it hauled away.
That creates less waste in our landfills. Food scraps from vegetables, eggs shells, coffee grinds along with the paper filter... yep, throw it in the compost pile.
Garden and yard waste... and, of course, those golden fall leaves, don't spend money bagging them up and putting them out at the curb for pick-up... that's
black gold
you’re throwing out. Shame on you!!!
Toss it all in the compost pile. Newspaper, magazines, and cardboard boxes - I'm talking serious mulch material here!!
All those organic elements can be piled up and once decompose, it will give you back rich material called compost - Black Gold! It's a beautiful thing to us gardeners.
If you are looking for a composter to make gardening easier, here is a great one that I recommend. The ComposTumbler and it comes available in different sizes to better fit your need.
