Press Release September 2007

NWF Shows People How to
Garden On the Wild Side!

The word is out on the grapevine that,
Teresa Baker - Mrs. B of “The Backyard Boutique, Lowell, MI” put out the welcome mat for all kinds of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife, while helping to protect the local environment.

Mrs. B’s residential property is now recognized as an official National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Backyard Wildlife Habitat site. The owner of “The Backyard Boutique” joined the many habitat enthusiasts who, with the help of NWF, have turned their backyards into enticing wildlife refuges.

NWF began the Backyard Wildlife Habitat program in 1973, and has since certified over 70,000 habitats nationwide. By creating a backyard habitat, Mrs. B learned the rewards of “gardening for wildlife.” The program teaches the importance of environmental stewardship by providing people the guidelines for making their landscapes more hospitable to wildlife.

Habitat restoration is critical for wildlife in urban and suburban settings where commercial and residential development encroaches on natural areas. Changing landscapes to encourage more wildlife also enhances the environment’s quality by improving the air, soil and water throughout the community. This effort promotes common-sense conservation by reducing and eliminating the need for fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation water.

Protecting the natural beauty of places we love and the wildlife they support is at the heart of America’s conservation ethic, and connecting with nature in our backyard can feed our sole, lift the spirit, mend the heart, and renew faith in our country’s tomorrow.

The National Wildlife Federation unites people from all walks of life to protect nature, wildlife, and the world we all share.

The Backyard Boutique at 219 E. Main St. offers a great selection of Decorative Garden Décor - Bird Houses, Bird Feeders and Bird Baths to help encourage beautiful wildbirds to your backyard; some with built-in heaters for winter use.

Spoil your backyard songbirds this winter with a Bird Bath Spa!!!
