Author at Attract Backyard Garden Wildlife, founder and managing editor of the team blog Beautiful Wildlife Garden and the team blog Native Plants and Wildlife Gardens, we bring people together to learn to create welcoming habitat for wildlife in their gardens.

We have traveled around the country to speak to groups, organizations, and conferences about protecting wildlife, creating habitat, and how to make the world a better place, one garden at a time. We teach you to garden sustainability, conserve natural resources, and create welcoming habitat for wildlife in your gardens so that you will attract more birds, butterflies, pollinators, frogs, toads, bats, bees, and other wildlife.

So, we are the Conservation Biologist and have spent over 20 years as a consultant designing, installing and maintaining wildlife gardens for people who want to share their space with birds, butterflies, frogs and toads, bats, reptiles and amphibians, and yes even insects.

Ever been confused by conflicting and incomplete information about attracting wildlife to your property?

We have completely researched subjects such as: ecology of birds, amphibians and reptiles, pollination, mammals, butterflies, and insect-plant interactions; botany, ecological restoration, sustainable landscaping, soil biology, and water conservation. We are going to share this research here with you. People we teach include homeowners, business owners, school and college groundskeepers, nursery owners, city planners, and open space advocates. Together we work on finding ways to share our properties with wildlife, conserve water, improve soil health and prevent erosion, use less fossil fuels, make sustainable choices, and choose the best plants.

Conservation Begins In Your Own Backyard

Yes, saving the rain forest, the Gulf coast, the polar bears, and more is very important. But you can begin to make a difference by starting in your own backyard.

By saying instead “I’m going to create a Monarch Way Station” or “I’m going to plant a garden for birds” or “I want to have a dragonfly pond in my garden” this makes the problem of biodiversity loss seem much smaller and much more manageable.

Ecosystem Gardening is about teaching you how to become a steward of your own property and to begin making positive choices in your own backyard for wildlife and the environment.

We really can do something that makes a difference. And creating an Ecosystem Garden is one of the very few things in life that actually makes real the old adage “If you build it, they will come.” When we choose to do something to help wildlife, the impact can be almost immediate. We are giving something back. Plant a spicebush for Spicebush Swallowtail butterflies, and have caterpillars this year. Plant some coneflower and have Goldfinches eating the seeds right away.

We can teach you to manage your property sustainably, in an environmentally friendly and conscious way. Being conscious of the impact of the choices you make is the first step to benefits to you and the health of the environment around you. This begins with choosing the plants that have the most value to wildlife and are most appropriate to your region.
